Cape Breton Fall Colors Itinerary***

The schedule below represents the itinerary for the two tours available this Fall.  Transportation is included in both tours so we can be together and talk about all things photography and Cape Breton while we’re driving between locations.  Travelling together in the same tour vehicle enhances the overall experience.

I’ve tried the self drive option with a long line of cars following each other and that degraded the tour experience.  People tend to get lost!  Travelling in the same tour vehicle decreases the overall travel time and confusion while increasing the quality of the tour.

Smaller tours are better!

Day 1: Thursday, Oct. 17 & 24, 2024:

We’ll meet on Thursday at 7:30pm at our venue in Baddeck, NS  where we’ll sign the required pre-tour release of liability waivers and the tour info session.

Day 2: Friday, Oct. 18 & 25, 2024:

We’ll start the day with sunrise followed with breakfast at one of the resort restaurants.  After breakfast we’ll set off on the Cabot Trail touring heading North into the Highlands!

We’ll stop frequently for photographs throughout the day.  There’ll be waterfalls, mountains, rivers, rugged coastlines and of course, the brilliant Fall colors that the Cabot Trail is Famous for!

Day 3: Saturday, Oct. 19 & 26, 2024:

We’ll round the top of Cape Breton Island today photographing some of the best scenery that the Cabot Trail has to offer along the NW coastline of Cape Breton.  Some of the best locations in this Northern part of the trip are only known to locals.  One such spot is an often overlooked part of the trail, even by many local Cape Bretoners.

If the weather is clear we’ll be able to see a remote part of the beautiful province of Quebec, Les Ilse de la Madeleine, far out into the Gulf.  There is one spot along the Trail where we can see this distance island on the horizon on a clear day.  It is an interesting and unique experience to be able to see Quebec on the horizon from Nova Scotia!

I know of many unique points along the trail because I spent much of my teenage years on Northwestern Cape Breton Island.  Locals know about these places, and I’m going to share the best of them with you on this tour.

Day 4, Sunday, Oct. 20 & 27, 2024:

We’ll start the day with with a nearby sunrise photography session.  Throughout the day today you’ll have the opportunity to utilize some of the the techniques that you learned from the landscape photography presentations and field lessons that you’ve attended over the past two days.

We’ll spend our day travelling South towards.  We’ll photograph at multiple locations along the Acadian shoreline and throughout the extended Margaree River watershed as we continue our journey around the Cabot Trail.

If the time, weather and group dynamics permit we’ll visit another precious, local favorite and the somewhat secret waterfall pictured below.  Visiting this beautiful waterfall will hinge on the weather and the condition of the access road and trail.  This waterfall is a bit off the beaten track but I know how to find it using a maze of backroads.  A moderate level of fitness is required to hike down to and then up the ~250m steep trail to view the Falls.  You may wait for us in the tour vehicle if you’d like to forego this hike and location.

After driving up and over Hunter’s Mountain we’ll complete the last few kilometers of the Cabot Trail and end up back where we started from in Baddeck.  I’ll graciously wish you well as you head out down your own roads after the tour.

*** Itinerary Variations:

The itinerary and exact locations for our photography are weather dependent and may also change due to the road/trail conditions and/or other extraneous circumstances that may arise.  This flexibility in the itinerary is needed to ensure that I deliver the best tour possible to you given my lifetime of experience in the area and the industry conditions we encounter during your tour.

I know this part of Cape Breton very, very well.  And, I’m going to enjoy showcasing it to you using experience in the area.
